Project Description-Macedonia


PRiSMa, Partners for Economic Development in Macedonia, is a broad-based partnership developing new opportunities and employment in Macedonia. Its motto is:

GET MACEDONIA BACK TO WORK

PRiSMa’s goals are to:

  • Introduce new ways of doing business that enable local communities to create jobs and promote economic development;
  • Promote expanded services to unemployed workers by creating worker adjustment committees that are proactive;
  • Improve enterprise competitiveness by promoting labor-management cooperation and job specific training,
  • Encourage new workforce development methods at national and local levels, in order to

The National Partners are: the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the Ministry of Economy, Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Local Self Government, the Association of Local Self Government Units, the National Employment Bureau, the Federation of Unions of Macedonia, the Chamber of Commerce and the National Enterprise Promotion Agency

Local partners in 30 service-center communities are drawn from the local representatives of the national partners as well as at least 50% private sector representatives, who represent the growth potential of the local economy.

The local teams learn methods for undertaking three component activities that introduce flexibility into the local labor market:

  • A Rapid Response Worker Adjustment Component to plan, organize and facilitate the transition of workers to new jobs;
  • An Enterprise Competitiveness Component to strengthen surviving enterprises and preserve jobs; and
  • A Community Economic Renewal Component to stimulate local economic development efforts and generate new jobs in communities impacted by enterprise restructuring.
